The Gripsholm fabric in color -002
We’re Bocotex, a Swedish company specializing in upholstery fabrics under the Borås Cotton Upholstery brand. We’ve owned the brand since 2008, when we acquired it from Borås Wäfveri. The upholstery fabrics are primarily intended for residential environments but also perform well in public spaces.
Our customers are furniture manufacturers and upholsterers mainly within the Nordic region, though we also have several representatives throughout Europe.
Common to all our fabrics is that they’re woven in 100% cotton, with a weight of around 400g/m², and are OEKO-TEX 100 certified. The fabrics are widely recognized on the market for their prints featuring large floral and other nature-inspired motifs, known as cretonnes.
Production is carried out exclusively within Europe by our long-established Turkish supplier, who handles everything from weaving to printing and dyeing. We exclusively use reactive dye printing, as we believe digital printing technology doesn’t achieve the same high quality on our heavier fabrics. Reactive dyes penetrate deeper into the fabric, resulting in more durable and long-lasting prints.
The fabric also has a water-and stain-repellent treatment to enhance durability in more demanding environments. The treatment contains no fluorocarbons.
Our fabrics resist machine washing up to 60 degrees Celsius, and it’s recommended to wash them inside out, without softeners or bleach.
Remember, the less washing the better for the environment!

About the design and our designer
The Nektar fabric in color -002
Borås Cotton possesses a rich heritage of patterns, and our designer Birgitta Johnsson-Nyysti has over 30 years of experience in the industry. She began as a designer during the days of Borås Wäfveri and has continued to work with us at Bocotex.
Her creations begin by hand, with personal inspiration drawn from nature, such as flowers and leaves. The patterns are created from freehand sketches, often using watercolors, before scaling down color schemes according to demand, preference, and taste. Technical details are then finalized to ensure they work on fabric, such as pattern matching and scaling up the designs.
Her strong sense of color and form results in soft, harmonious patterns with timeless organic motifs created for everyday environments. This is something we believe is particularly important in today’s stressful society and confined environments.
